Achieve longevity

How to achieve longevity in your New Optimist pieces:

  • Try not to over wash your item. Only wash when it genuinely needs it. After wearing, hang the piece to aerate before folding it away or wearing it again.
  • Wash smart. Wash your item in a full load to avoid water wastage, stick to a gentle detergent and go for a lower temperature. A cold wash and soft detergent will also help preserve the garment’s color.
  • Hang dry. Preferably in open air but inside will do just fine. Avoiding a tumble dry saves energy and will increase the garment’s lifetime.

Repair Service:

We offer free repairs for New Optimist pieces. Send us an email with a description and picture of the problem area and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

CHINA

WASTE-TO-FIBRE PROGRAM

  • CONSUMER WASTE
  • ORGANIC COTTON

It starts in China, where our partner Circular Systems transforms waste into valuable fiber and yarn.

Their ‘waste-to-fibre’ program, recycle cotton of consumer waste, and develop Texloop’s RCOT recycled cotton yarns. Which then will be blended with GOTS certified organic cotton. To get the highest-quality yarn. Recycled cotton is one of the lowest impact fibers. You get all the amazing things we love about cotton without out all the devastation to our environment. No land use. No water. Great benefits to start the journey with.

Yarns become fabric

  • Knitting
  • Dyeing
  • Straightening
  • Packaged into role

Big machines are knitting our sweat and jersey into tubular fabrics, using the Texloop RCOT yarn. In this case we are talking about ‘30 gauge’, which refers to the size and fineness of the knitting machine.

Then they dye our fabrics in huge washing machines. The following steps are straightening, stabilising and drying. At the end of this procedure, the fabrics come out neatly rolled and packed ready for shipping to our Amsterdam atelier.

CUT AND SEWING IN OUR INSTORE ATELIER

  • Cutting following our patterns
  • Sewing by Idris etc
  • Printing at superette

From here one we took care of all the processes ourself. We do this in the most social and ethical way. After the design was translated into a pattern, Idris, Ferhan and Mimi took the responsibility for the cutting and sewing of this garment.

We didn’t add anything that wasn’t plant based. Even our sewing thread, cords, and all labels are 100% made of cotton.
